R.I.P. Pink Slime: Abhorrent Moment in History–2012
It’s hard to eat a balanced diet these days, foodies. That’s why it’s with a heavy heart that I inform you McDonald’s has officially announced it’s removing pink slime from its burgers.
The term “pink slime”, referring to that anaconda-esque foodstuff above, was coined recently by Jamie Oliver, health food advocate and human buzzkill. It’s apparently composed of what’s leftover after all the “choice cuts” are taken from beef. It’s not legal to serve to humans in the snooty old UK, but until yesterday, the good ole US of A has been slapping some antibacterial spray on it and calling it food. Aaaaand roll it.
I don’t know about you, but I’m Machiavellian when it comes to food. The taste justifies the ingredients, namean? If pulling pink slime ultimately affects the taste of my beloved McDonald’s hamburger, simultaneously salty and sweet, then my mourning will begin in earnest.

I don’t really like Mcdonalds Hamburgers, mostly because they taste like cardboard and extremely fake. I’m hoping this might actually improve the flavor or mcds so that I have more options other then nugs and fries.
“boneless lean beef trimmings” – but it SOUNDS healthy!
What’s next, a ban on Soylent Green??
Technically the pink slime has been out since August according to the article.
“This product has been out of our supply chain since August of last year. This decision was a result of our efforts to align our global standards for how we source beef around the world.”
Burger King and Taco Bell have also discontinued the use of boneless lean beef trimmings in their food.”
It’s much easier to enjoy fast food if you try not to think about what’s actually in what you’re eating. At least this makes me feel justified in never really preferring McDonald’s burgers.
The fact that our US government would even consider this to be legal for humans to consume is barbaric. Fast food has taken over our society and replaced what we have previously known as home cooking. The problem of convenience and timing take over and we let ourselves consume this toxin material just because visually it looks “tasty”. However when we look at what we are REALLY eating it should persuade us to NOT eat this sludge they serve to us called “food”.
