The Last Kiss…of Southern Fast Food

The Last Kiss…of Southern Fast Food

Dear foodies, It is with great difficulty that I write you this today (today which is my 24th birthday, whoop whoop!). Anyone who knows me knows that my Southern upbringing is a vital part of my personality. Further still, anyone who knows me as a fast foodie knows that my favorite fast food restaurants are all based in the South. Every summer and every winter, I leave my home in NYC to visit my family in … Read entire article »

Sonic: It Exists

Sonic: It Exists

Is there anything more deceptive than a television ad for Sonic? I’m one of those insufferable people who “doesn’t have a television”, but in my gym-going days, I had a one hour window where I could binge on all the daytime date shows MTV offered. CHAIN ENVY

CHAIN ENVY

Hey foodies, Today I stumbled upon an article that gave me some great validation. I’d like to share that article with you. To my New York brethren (and, I guess, all my New England brethren), 7-11 is a commonplace thing. Less omnipresent than, say, Burger King, but still most certainly A Chain. For those who do not know 7-11s, let me explain them to you: 7-11 is sort of … Read entire article »

Courting the Food Court – Part 1

Hey foodies, Today I begin a series I hold near and dear to my heart: Courting the Food Court. In CtFC, I take an in-depth analysis of those restaurants found reliably–and sometimes only!–in food courts. Part One: That One Asian Restaurant There is always an “exotic” cuisine in a mall food court. Growing up in the South (trust me, you’ll be hearing so much more about this), these such restaurants never really had a specific regional bent. Often touted as “Oriental” food, That One Asian Restaurant in the food court served lots of high-calorie rice (HOW CAN SOMETHING AS BORING AS RICE BE HIGH CALORIE? RIDDLE ME THAT), greasy egg rolls and chicken saturated in sweet sauce turned crunchy in the fryer. An interesting thing to note about That One Asian Restaurant is that … Read entire article »
